Raiders extend Michael Mayer, reportedly make him one of NFL's highest-paid TEs with 3-year, $45 million deal

The Las Vegas Raiders have reached an agreement with Michael Mayer on a three-year contract extension valued at $45 million. The deal places the tight end among the league's top-earning players at his position prior to the kickoff of the regular season.

The lucrative commitment coincides with an elevated role for Mayer, who takes over primary duties while fellow tight end Brock Bowers recovers from a meniscus trim performed by Dr. Daniel Cooper on September 8.

Bowers is anticipated to sit out at least a game or two, thrusting Mayer directly into the starting lineup for Las Vegas' season opener against the Miami Dolphins.
