Several prominent Formula 1 competitors have weighed in on the discussion surrounding a potential penalty for Franco Colapinto following a chaotic incident during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Mercedes competitor George Russell argued that suspending the young driver for a race would have been an excessive punishment.

The accident occurred during a restart on the thirty-sixth lap at the Baku street circuit. Colapinto missed his braking marker on the dusty inside line for the first turn, locked his front wheels, and collided directly with Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris.
