Pro Football Focus grades Washington's secondary among nation's best

Washington’s defense is setting a new standard in college football, with its secondary leading the charge. According to Pro Football Focus, the Huskies rank 10th nationally with an 87.1 grade through five games, trailing only Penn State in the Big Ten.

The unit has thrived on generating turnovers, ranking second in the conference with seven interceptions, while safety Alex McLaughlin has been a standout with 33 tackles, including 4.5 for loss, 2.5 sacks, three pass breakups, and two interceptions. Despite a 25-21 loss to USC, head coach Jedd Fisch and defensive coordinator Ryan Walters praised sophomore cornerback Dylan Robinson for his aggressive play, calling his performance a breakthrough.

Robinson’s confidence in press coverage and ball skills was evident, though a questionable pass interference call against USC’s Tanhook Hines sparked debate over the play’s legitimacy.
