The Houston Astros find themselves facing elimination following a six to three defeat against the Chicago White Sox in the opening game of their series. Chicago grabbed an early edge when Munetaka Murakami drove in the initial run with a sacrifice fly, followed by a two-run single from Sam Antonacci in the subsequent frame off pitcher Bryan King.
The visitors extended their advantage in the fourth inning when Colton Montgomery hit a solo home run to center field, and Chase Meidroth later drove in Murakami to make it five to zero. Houston responded in the fifth inning as Nelson Velazquez hit a home run bringing home Lucas Spence, and the Astros later capitalized on a wild pitch and defensive misplays in the eighth to pull within three runs, though eight different pitchers ultimately cycled through for Houston in the losing effort.
