The Detroit Pistons are pinning their hopes on Kevin Huerter’s return to form as a reliable three-point shooter to secure his place in the rotation this season. After the Pistons acquired Huerter in a trade last year—swapping Jaden Ivey for the veteran guard—they were initially skeptical about his shooting consistency, which had declined significantly in recent campaigns.
Huerter’s career three-point percentage stands at 36.8%, but his accuracy has dropped sharply since his peak seasons, when he shot over 38% from deep in four of his first five NBA years. His shooting plummeted to 30.8% last season, with a particularly dismal 29.4% mark during his brief stint with the Pistons, though he showed signs of improvement before a hip injury sidelined him for the playoffs.
Despite the struggles, Huerter’s defensive versatility, finishing around the rim, and ability to facilitate offense earned him a three-year, $27 million contract to return to Detroit this offseason. With the Pistons aiming to maintain their Eastern Conference dominance, Huerter’s ability to restore his shooting touch will be critical to his role in the starting lineup.
