Phillies turn to Jesús Luzardo in Game 1 despite not knowing ‘what to expect'

Facing a quick postseason turnaround, the Phillies have named their opening pitcher for the wild card round. Interim manager Don Mattingly revealed that Jesús Luzardo will take the mound for the first game against Atlanta, though the coaching staff remains uncertain how deep into the contest the left-hander can go given his recent recovery from shoulder inflammation.

Luzardo last started a game on September 7th, throwing a complete-game shutout against the very same opponents before being sidelined. He returned briefly during the regular-season finale against Tampa Bay on Sunday, needing just four pitches to breeze through a quick inning of relief.
