Following a training session on Thursday, the Pittsburgh organization sent forward Rutger McGroarty down to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton club. This assignment comes after he sat out as a healthy scratch during the opening game against Philadelphia, and follows teammate Ben Kindel returning to full participation in practice while recovering from an injury sustained in the pre-season opener versus Buffalo.
McGroarty brings previous experience of 32 total appearances in the top league across two years, contributing four goals and nine points in that span, and will now aim to boost his squad for the beginning of their minor league campaign.
Looking ahead, the main NHL roster prepares to host Montreal for their upcoming home contest scheduled for Saturday evening. Should he perform well or if physical setbacks impact the roster depth, McGroarty is expected to rejoin the parent club later in the schedule.
