Ahead of the final NHL roster submission, the Pittsburgh Penguins placed four athletes onto injured reserve to trim their active camp numbers. Blake Lizotte, Justin Brazeau, Ben Kindel, and Ryan Graves joined the sidelined group, while Bryan Rust and Tristan Broz are currently being evaluated following the club's pre-season finale.
In addition, management reassigned Bill Zonnon, Harrison Brunicke, and Joel Blomqvist to the minor leagues, leaving the active group at twenty-five skaters. Earlier, Pittsburgh wrapped up its exhibition schedule by defeating the Buffalo Sabres three to one, completing a split in their pre-season series.
The club must reach the mandatory twenty-three player limit before the upcoming deadline, with several roster spots and positional battles still under consideration by the front office.
