Orioles news: A quiet day in Birdland

The Baltimore Orioles had a quiet off-day as they prepare for the postseason stakes, with no action on the field. Meanwhile, the American League Division Series heats up tonight as the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians clash in Game 5, starting at 8 p.m.

ET on TBS/HBO Max. Sean Burke, a University of Maryland alum, will take the mound for the White Sox, where he’s had a strong season with an 11-7 record, a 3.34 ERA, and 172.1 innings pitched.

Burke’s focus on baseball as a central part of his life has been a talking point, though he later clarified he wasn’t suggesting he had no family—just no current long-term relationships or children. The Orioles’ bullpen remains a bright spot heading into the offseason, while Colton Cowser’s struggles against left-handed pitching could draw extra attention in 2027, despite his elite defensive skills.

Elsewhere, Sonny Gray’s potential return to the Orioles in 2027 could add depth to their rotation, given his recent strong performances and preference for East Coast teams.
