In a sudden development, Dana Altman has announced his retirement as the head coach of the Oregon men's basketball program. The decision comes with the 2026-27 season less than a month away, following a tenure that began in 2010 and included a 2017 Final Four appearance.
Tony Stubblefield, a longtime assistant, will take over as interim head coach for the upcoming campaign while the university conducts a search for a permanent replacement. Altman, who departs as the program's winningest coach, leaves behind a career record of 382-182 at Oregon and 792-425 overall across 37 seasons in Division I basketball.
The move follows a difficult 12-20 campaign last year, marking the first time in his time at the school that the team failed to secure 20 wins or finish in the top eight of the conference.
