Oregon men’s basketball coach Dana Altman has announced his retirement just weeks before the start of the 2026-27 season, ending a 16-year tenure as the winningest coach in program history. Altman, 68, took over in 2010 and led the Ducks to a Final Four appearance in 2017, compiling a 382-182 record during his time with the team.
The abrupt timing of his decision—less than a month before the season begins—has left the program scrambling, as Oregon will now turn to interim head coach Tony Stubblefield to guide the team through the upcoming campaign. Stubblefield, a longtime assistant, will step into the role while the school searches for a permanent replacement to fill Altman’s legacy-filled position.
