Oklahoma's Brent Venables has 'great belief' in his backup QBs

Following a heavy forty-one to thirteen defeat against the Georgia Bulldogs where starting quarterback John Mateer accumulated six turnovers over three games, Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables expressed strong confidence in his reserves. Fans have increasingly favored backup signal-callers Whitt Newbauer and Bowe Bentley as alternatives.

Newbauer previously logged nearly fourteen hundred passing yards and twelve touchdowns as a freshman starter for the Mercer Bears. Meanwhile, Bentley enters the program ranked as the seventh-best quarterback in the two thousand twenty-six recruiting class following a senior campaign featuring over twenty-nine hundred passing yards, thirty-two passing touchdowns, and eleven rushing scores.
