Ohio State’s season took a sharp turn on Halloween night as the Buckeyes fell to USC 30–18 in Los Angeles, marking their first two-game losing streak before November since 2011. The loss was particularly stinging for head coach Ryan Day, whose team struggled offensively despite a strong statistical effort.
Quarterback Luke Fahey, making his first career start in place of injured starter Julian Sayin, completed just 11 of 28 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown, while the Buckeyes’ rushing attack from Isaiah West and Bo Jackson combined for nearly 200 yards. Key miscues, including a dropped pass by Phillip Bell in the red zone, left Ohio State trailing 20–9 at halftime, and USC’s opportunistic offense—led by Jayden Maiava (222 passing yards, TD) and King Miller (78 rushing yards, TD)—extended the lead in the second half.
The Trojans’ defense also held firm, limiting Ohio State to 464 total yards, while their own defense was exposed by the Buckeyes’ young backfield and Fahey’s inexperience under pressure. Despite the setback, Ohio State remains in contention with a 6–2 record and four games left to salvage their season goals.
