Not KL Rahul! Dhruv Jurel named captain as India A squad for New Zealand tour announced

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the India A squad for their upcoming series against New Zealand A, set to begin on October 24. Contrary to typical selections for A-team matches, this lineup includes several first-team players ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, signaling a strategic focus on development and preparation.

Among the standout picks are KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal, and Rishabh Pant, who join a mix of emerging talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar. Notably, Dhruv Jurel has been named captain for the series, leading the side despite the presence of more experienced players.

The tour will feature three unofficial four-day Test matches in New Zealand, scheduled for October and November 2026, as part of the buildup to the senior team’s World Test Championship series.
