Despite missing multiple key contributors due to injuries, Northwestern put on a defensive clinic Friday night at New Ryan Field to secure a 34-13 victory over Penn State. The Wildcats completely stifled the opposing attack, surrendering a mere 291 total yards and a meager 48 yards on the ground at a rate of 2.2 yards per carry.
Penn State struggled to sustain any offensive momentum as ball carriers Carson Hansen and Jabree Wallace-Coleman Peoples were held to 19 and 13 rushing yards respectively, while quarterback Rocco Becht faced constant pressure and finished with 243 passing yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
Northwestern capitalized on defensive execution across all units to seal the dominant conference win. Braydon Brus spearheaded the effort with nine tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, a pass breakup, and one of the two interceptions off Becht.
Kobie McKinzie led all Wildcats with ten tackles, and Robert Fitzgerald added four tackles, a pass breakup, and the game sealing interception late in the fourth quarter to put an exclamation point on the evening.
