Northants all-rounder Keogh to retire after 16 years

Long-serving Northamptonshire all-rounder Rob Keogh will conclude his professional cricket career at the finish of the ongoing campaign following medical recommendations regarding a persistent lower back problem. The 34-year-old Bedfordshire native, who entered the setup at age 12 via the Emerging Players Programme and made his senior breakthrough in August 2010, spent his entire 16-season tenure with the Wantage Road outfit.

Across 315 matches, he struck the decisive runs during the team's 2016 T20 Blast triumph, assisted in gaining County Championship top-flight promotions in 2013 and 2019, and earned his county cap in 2019. Honoured with a testimonial season in 2024, Keogh also received the squad's players' player of the year accolade in 2022, later disclosing that mental health challenges had sidelined him during portions of the 2024 campaign.

Keogh accumulated 10,140 runs across all formats for the Steelbacks after passing the 10,000 threshold in 2025, an achievement surpassed by a mere 30 cricketers in the club's existence. His 21 centuries match the benchmark established by Raman Subba Row, highlighted by a personal-best 221 against Hampshire over nearly eight hours in 2013.

Reflecting on a career that saw him transition from an off-spinning state-school pupil from Dunstable to a core multi-format stalwart, Keogh noted that the physical setbacks effectively forced his hand, while chief executive Ray Payne lauded him as a vanishing breed of one-club competitors.
