Arunachal Pradesh will not participate in the upcoming Vinoo Mankad Trophy, the national U-19 cricket tournament, after failing to field a team for the competition. The state’s absence stems from an ongoing legal dispute involving the Arunachal Cricket Association (ACA), with six district associations challenging the election results of current president Nabam Vivek and other officials.
A Gauhati High Court interim stay has halted the association’s operations, preventing team selection and preparations for the tournament. The match against Sikkim in the Plate Group, originally scheduled for KIIT Cricket Stadium in Bhubaneswar, will now be forfeited by Arunachal under BCCI rules, with the match awarded to Sikkim by default.
The legal turmoil could also impact Arunachal’s participation in the Ranji Trophy, set to begin on October 11, as the state’s team remains inactive due to the unresolved dispute. The six district associations—Lower Siang, Upper Subansiri, Kamle, Tawang, West Siang, and Papum Pare—have demanded a re-election, but no judgment has been delivered yet, leaving the association’s future uncertain.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the legal hurdles as the primary reason for the state’s withdrawal from the tournament.
