Nils Hoglander Turning Back the Clock in Nashville

The Nashville Predators' 2026–27 season kicked off with a tough road test, as they fell 5–4 in overtime to the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 6. Auston Matthews sealed the win with the game’s final goal, extending his dominance in a match that saw Nashville struggle to contain Toronto’s top line.

Meanwhile, the Predators’ first-round pick from the 2024 NHL Draft, Yegor Surin (22nd overall), has faced early challenges in the KHL, where his offensive production has dipped despite a strong initial start to the season. The loss marked Nashville’s first defeat of the year, coming in a high-scoring, frantic contest that underscored the Leafs’ depth and the Predators’ need for adjustments as they embark on a three-game Canadian road trip.
