NFL power rankings Week 8: Who's No. 1 after 49ers, Chiefs lose first games?

Entering the eighth week of the 2026 professional football campaign, the San Francisco 49ers retain the top position in the power rankings despite dropping their initial contest. Missing key contributors like Nick Bosa, Deebo Samuel, and Mike Evans due to injuries, and playing shortly after a Monday night appearance, the squad fell to the Atlanta Falcons while Brock Purdy struggled and Christian McCaffrey played under full health.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears hold the second spot behind a resurgent Caleb Williams, and the Denver Broncos sit third as Bo Nix prepares to face Kansas City. The Seattle Seahawks occupy fourth place, followed by the Minnesota Vikings in fifth, whose low touchdown count during their six-win beginning has drawn historical comparisons.

The Kansas City Chiefs drop to sixth following a difficult outing for Patrick Mahomes, while the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, and Buffalo Bills round out the top tier under the guidance of coaches like Liam Coen and rookie leader Joe Brady.
