Newly-retired Stephon Gilmore reflects on Patriots tenure

Stephon Gilmore has formally concluded his professional football career by agreeing to a ceremonial one-day pact to retire with the New England Patriots. The 35-year-old defensive back previously revealed his decision to step away via social media in April after concluding his final active campaign in 2024 with the Minnesota Vikings.

During his four-year stint in New England, Gilmore earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, secured two All-Pro selections, made five Pro Bowls, and captured a championship in Super Bowl LIII to conclude the 2018 season.

Upon making his retirement official at Gillette Stadium on Friday, Gilmore acknowledged that his tenure with the franchise allowed him to truly develop into his full potential after a strong beginning to his career. The former Buffalo Bills star also shared words of encouragement for current Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez during his Foxborough visit.
