Addressing this recurring frustration, NBC has decided to pair its own play-by-play announcers with local analysts for this week opening round matchups, marking the network first baseball playoff coverage since 2000.
Executive producer Sam Flood noted that the move is designed to respect fans who want to hear trusted voices calling their favorite teams.
The customized broadcast booths feature several notable pairings across the scheduled games. Jason Benetti will work alongside Lou Merloni and Joe Girardi for the matchup between Boston and New York, while Steve Stone teams with Geoff Blum, and John Kruk joins C.J.
Nitkowski. Additionally, Jim Deshaies delayed a scheduled medical procedure to partner with Mark Grant in covering the Chicago and San Diego series, and Anthony Rizzo will serve in a newly created analyst role.
