During the opening game of the American League Division Series on Saturday afternoon, Chicago White Sox rookie Murakami launched his first career postseason home run off Cleveland Guardians left-hander Parker Messick. The towering drive traveled an estimated 440 feet with an exit velocity of 112.2 miles per hour, immediately following a single by teammate Vargas in the fourth frame.
With this deep blast, Murakami joined Gavin Sheets, Luis Robert Jr., and Tadahito Iguchi as the only rookies in franchise history to hit a postseason home run for the club. Earlier in the contest, relief pitcher Bryan Hudson escaped a jam in the third by inducing a fly ball from Chase DeLauter to left fielder Randal Grichuk after starter Hagen Smith issued three consecutive two-out walks.
