The Indian Premier League has reached a total market valuation of $17 billion, with the Mumbai Indians emerging as the most valuable franchise at $2.1 billion. This figure represents a massive increase from the $111.9 million initial investment made by Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries in 2008.
The league's overall worth has surged by 1,800% since its inception, with individual teams like the Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders seeing their values multiply over 20 times.
While the Mumbai Indians lead the pack, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings follow with valuations of $1.85 billion and $1.75 billion respectively. Even the lowest-valued team, the Lucknow Super Giants, holds a significant $1.5 billion price tag.
Recent ownership changes include a consortium led by Lakshmi Mittal acquiring the Rajasthan Royals, while the Royal Challengers Bengaluru saw investment from groups including those associated with David Blitzer.
