Mumbai Indians announced on October 24 that Kieron Pollard will serve as head coach for the 2027 IPL season. He replaces Mahela Jayawardene, who departed after the team finished ninth in 2026.
Pollard, a former West Indies all-rounder, spent 13 seasons as a player for the franchise, joining in 2010 and scoring 3,412 runs in 189 games with a 147.32 strike rate. He was part of five championship wins in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, and served as batting coach for four years after retiring in November 2022.
The franchise's coaching history includes early leaders like Lalchand Rajput in 2008, Shaun Pollock in 2009, and Robin Singh from 2010 to 2012. John Wright secured the first title in 2013, while Ricky Ponting won a second in 2015.
Jayawardene's first tenure began in 2017, leading the team to three titles in 2017, 2019, and 2020. Mark Boucher managed the squad for the 2023 and 2024 seasons before Jayawardene returned for 2025 and 2026, winning 64 of his 121 total matches.
