Mourinho and Simeone renew rivalry in Madrid derby after more than a decade

Jose Mourinho and Diego Simeone are set to square off in the Spanish capital for the first time in over ten years when Atletico Madrid host Real Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday. Their previous dugout clash occurred back in 2014 during the Champions League when Chelsea eliminated Atletico, while their prior league meeting in Madrid ended in a four to one victory for the Portuguese coach.

Heading into the weekend fixtures, Real sit second in the standings with fifteen points from six matches, trailing league leaders Barcelona by six points if they fail to win. Atletico occupy fourth spot with thirteen points following consecutive victories against Real Sociedad and Osasuna, while Real aim to build on their narrow three to two triumph over Elche.
