Former international cricketer Mohammad Kaif has publicly questioned national selectors regarding the omission of veteran pace bowler Mohammed Shami from the upcoming tour squad for New Zealand. Kaif highlighted Shami's exceptional performance during the 2023 home World Cup, where the fast bowler claimed twenty-four wickets across seven matches to finish as the tournament's leading wicket-taker and successfully carried the bowling attack alongside four teammates following Hardik Pandya's injury.
Pointing out that Shami has continued to demonstrate strong form and take wickets in domestic first-class matches like the Ranji Trophy, Kaif demanded greater accountability and transparency from the selection committee. The former batter questioned why certain bowlers receive different standards of treatment concerning workload management and match fitness assessments.
