Longtime NBA broadcaster Mike Breen has come to the defense of Fox Sports’ Joe Davis, dismissing claims that the Dodgers play-by-play announcer shows bias during national broadcasts. Breen, who called the Knicks’ 2023 NBA championship and has experience balancing home and national calls, praised Davis’s work, noting he heard no favoritism even during the Dodgers’ recent World Series wins and 2024 NLCS run.
As a Mets fan, Breen said he detected no Dodgers-leaning commentary during the 2022 NLCS, where the Dodgers faced his team. He acknowledged the inherent challenge of calling for passionate local fans while maintaining objectivity on national broadcasts, comparing it to his own experience during the Knicks’ title run.
Breen also referenced advice he received from former Fox announcer Joe Buck, who urged excitement for both teams rather than forced neutrality. Davis himself has downplayed the criticism, focusing on delivering his best work regardless of fan perceptions.
