Mets should make all-out Tarik Skubal pursuit, but it could take a philosophical shift

Following a disappointing campaign that saw the front office struggle to return to the postseason, the front office faces an urgent need to acquire top-tier pitching this winter. While young talents like Carson Benge, A.J.

Ewing, Christian Scott, Zac Thornton, and Jonah Tong showed promising signs, the roster still requires external upgrades at first base, designated hitter, and multiple bullpen arms. Most crucially, acquiring an elite front-line starter is paramount to avoid the pitching depth issues that derailed previous seasons.

To address this need, targeting two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal makes sense, though securing the star left-hander would require a major philosophical shift for the organization.
