Maresca criticises focus on controversial winner

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca expressed disappointment that attention has centered on a contested refereeing call rather than his squad's gritty derby triumph at Old Trafford. City clinched a 1-0 win over Manchester United courtesy of Erling Haaland's strike in the 60th minute, extending their top-flight winning streak to four games.

The triumph came despite the guests competing a man down for roughly 70 to 75 minutes after Phil Foden received a red card.

Haaland's decisive effort was initially ruled out on the pitch before a video review overturned the call, judging the forward onside. Referees later admitted that an error occurred, as Enzo Fernandez had committed an uncalled offside infraction by lunging toward the ball and disrupting opponents.

Speaking ahead of an upcoming Carabao Cup third-round match with Norwich City, Maresca praised his team's remarkable display and accepted that officiating blunders inevitably balance out over time.
