Madsen & Aitchison hit tons for Derbys at Northants

Superb tons from skipper Wayne Madsen (151) and all-rounder Ben Aitchison (106) dramatically turned the opening day of Derbyshire's County Championship Division Two clash at Northampton. Looking to fuel their promotion push against rivals Kent, the hosts initially tore through Derbyshire's top order, reducing them to 51-4 and 107-6.

Ben Sanderson began the collapse by removing Harry Came leg-before in the first over, while Liam Guthrie crossed the milestone of 100 first-class victims—and his 50th for Northamptonshire—by taking 3-66, which included quickly dismissing Matt Montgomery, Yousaf Bin Naeem, and Martin Andersson. Harry Conway also claimed 3-75, striking alongside Sanderson (3-72) to remove Luis Reece and Brooke Guest just after the lunch interval.

4 overs for the seventh wicket. Aitchison overcame early uncertainties to strike 14 fours and a six for his second first-class century before the hosts used the second new ball to dismiss Derbyshire's final three wickets within 15 deliveries for a total of 372.

Facing 10 awkward overs ahead of stumps, Northamptonshire openers Ricardo Vasconcelos (11 not out) and Luke Procter guided their side safely to 15 without loss, leaving the home team 357 runs behind with both sides having claimed three bonus points.
