The SEC’s top two teams collide this weekend as No. 22 LSU returns home to face No.
16 Mississippi State, seeking to bounce back from a heartbreaking overtime loss at Kentucky. The Tigers, now at 4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play, find themselves in a precarious spot after two early-season defeats—a familiar pattern under previous coaches.
Meanwhile, Mississippi State (4-1, 2-1 SEC) enters the game with momentum, having already secured two SEC wins, including a dominant 56-23 victory over Alabama two weeks ago. That win, however, came with a major question mark: sophomore quarterback Kamario Taylor, who was sidelined with a foot injury and finished the game with minus-26 rushing yards.
His availability remains uncertain, with redshirt freshman Parker Puckett and AJ Swann as potential backups if he cannot play. For LSU, the stakes are equally high, as a third SEC loss would leave little room for error in November, with Alabama and Texas looming on the schedule.
Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby, who previously ran Lane Kiffin’s high-octane offense at Ole Miss, brings a wealth of experience to the matchup, though Kiffin has openly admitted his Bulldogs’ speed will be tested against LSU’s offensive firepower.
