Lowly Peterborough sack manager Williams

Luke Williams has been dismissed by Peterborough United following a home setback against Doncaster Rovers that pushed the club down to 23rd place in League One. The result extended the Posh's winless streak to five league matches, including three defeats, leaving them a solitary point clear of last-placed Wigan Athletic after seven fixtures of the campaign.

The decision arrived despite an encouraging cup run just four days earlier, when Williams directed the team into the Carabao Cup fourth round for the first time since 2009 via a 7-6 penalty shootout triumph over Barnsley following a 3-3 deadlock.

The 45-year-old manager departs after spending under 11 months at the helm. He originally took over in October 2025 with the club sitting bottom of the standings, succeeding Darren Ferguson during his fourth tenure.

Although the former Notts County and Swansea City head coach steered Peterborough to an 18th-place finish by the conclusion of that season, another sluggish opening to the new league campaign ultimately brought his time in charge to an end.
