Rhett Lowder concluded his turbulent campaign with a strong performance, tossing six scoreless innings to help guide the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. Despite missing the previous year due to injuries and enduring a rough month of September, the right-hander allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out two batters to finish his rookie-eligible season with a 7-12 record and a 5.74 ERA across twenty-nine appearances.
Manager Terry Francona guided the squad through a schedule that featured time on the injured list and a stint in the bullpen for the young pitcher.
Cincinnati provided enough offense early on to secure the decision for their starter, starting with a solo home run from JJ Bleday in the second frame against Trey Yesavage. Eugenio Suárez contributed an RBI double during a two-run third inning, and Héctor Rodríguez plated two more runs in the fifth frame with a triple off the outfield wall.
Despite issuing a pair of walks to begin his outing, the pitcher settled down to retire eleven of his final twelve opposing batters.
