LIV Golf’s future hangs in the balance as its legal team revealed in a federal bankruptcy hearing that the league’s fate will be determined by the end of October. Attorney Robert Fitzgerald told U.S.
Bankruptcy Court of New Jersey Judge Michael B. Kaplan that the decision on whether LIV Golf 2.0 will proceed or shut down will be finalized soon, with the league already preparing to make payments to vendors and host sites if approved.
The timing of this announcement coincides with the DP World Tour’s recent policy change, which bars players from competing in both leagues in 2027—a move LIV’s legal team called a deliberate attempt to disrupt its restructuring efforts. The shift could impact players like Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, who previously received exemptions to play in both tours, and now face a deadline of October 25 to commit to LIV Golf 2.0.
Under the proposed structure, players would hold a 52.5% stake in the league, while BC Partners would take a 45% share, with the remaining 2.5% allocated to minority investors and management. Fitzgerald emphasized that player freedom remains the cornerstone of LIV’s mission, arguing that the DP World Tour’s decision raises anti-competitive concerns by restricting participation in the rival league.
