The Atlanta Dream’s return to the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2013 has been overshadowed by a logistical crisis threatening their ability to host key games at their usual venue. State Farm Arena, which seats 17,000 fans, is unavailable for Games 3 and 4—and potentially Game 6—due to scheduling conflicts with concerts and NBA preseason games.
With no alternative venue secured, the team is now considering Gateway Center Arena in College Park, which holds just 3,500 spectators, raising concerns about fan attendance and revenue. Former ESPN analyst Linda Cohn criticized the situation as a ‘sad commentary’ on the league’s growth, questioning whether the controversy might inadvertently generate publicity the Finals would otherwise lack.
The Dream have less than a week to resolve the issue before the season begins, with the WNBA’s reputation on the line if the smaller arena becomes the default option.
