The incident occurred during the restart following a safety car deployment on the thirtieth lap, which had been triggered by Alexander Albon's retirement from the contest.

Prior to the green flag waving, Lawson occupied twelfth position while Lindblad sat fourteenth, with Franco Colapinto also involved in the unfolding events.
