Lando Norris: McLaren’s Baku deficit is a “knife in the heart”

Lando Norris has characterised the pace shortfall experienced by McLaren during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend as being akin to a tiny dagger piercing his chest. During the initial practice period on Thursday, the British competitor managed only the fourteenth position, lagging sixteen-tenths behind the pace-setting benchmark established by George Russell, while his garage colleague Oscar Piastri finished a full second adrift.

Later in the second practice session, his lag remained at fifteen-tenths as he secured a sixth-place finish in a field that included rival teams Red Bull and Ferrari.
