KTM’s MotoGP campaign has faced a setback after the ban on front holeshot devices, which had previously given the RC16 a competitive edge at race starts. Team manager Aki Ajo acknowledged the rule change has impacted their performance, though he noted that all manufacturers are continuously refining their machines.
The Austrian outfit’s struggles in this area come as rider Pedro Acosta sits fifth in the championship standings, just one point behind Aprilia’s Ai Ogura, with his best qualifying result this season being a pole position at Catalunya and his worst a 10th-place grid slot at Mugello and Sachsenring. While rear holeshot devices remain legal for now, their elimination is also planned for the 2027 850cc/Pirelli era, forcing teams to adapt sooner rather than later.
