Kosgei wins Great North Run but McColgan withdraws

The Scottish runner, who finished third here a year ago, was attempting to rebuild her campaign following a broken toe sustained while finishing as the top Briton in seventh at April's London Marathon, an ordeal that left her footwear stained with blood and sidelined her from July's Commonwealth Games.

Despite rebounding to take victory at the Big Half in 1:10:54 just seven days prior, where she voiced lingering doubts about her condition, her comeback was abruptly halted.
