Know Your Enemy: Sabres Must Prove Tuch Was Wrong To Leave Buffalo For Washington

The Buffalo Sabres face a demanding 2026-27 campaign following an impressive previous season that featured a division title and an opening playoff series victory over the Boston Bruins. In their upcoming matchups against the Washington Capitals, the Sabres will need to navigate a reinforced opponent that added key veterans such as Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, Boone Jenner, and Vincent Desharnais through trades and free agency.

Buffalo struggled against Washington during the 2025-26 series, going 1-2-0 while the Capitals posted a 2-0-1 record, and the newly retooled Washington squad is expected to present an even greater hurdle this time around.

Washington's roster also retains established cornerstones like Alexander Ovechkin, Logan Thompson, Jakob Chychrun, and Tom Wilson. The Sabres will square off against the Capitals on October 24 and November 19 in Washington before finally hosting them in Buffalo on March 18.

By defeating this formidable rival, the Sabres have a chance to prove that Tuch's departure for the capital was a misstep and demonstrate their ability to conquer top-tier Eastern Conference competition.
