Kentucky football has made a historic start to the SEC season, becoming the first FBS program to win back-to-back overtime games featuring two-point conversion victories. The Wildcats now sit at 3-1 in conference play, marking only the second time this century they’ve achieved that record in their first four SEC games.
The last time Kentucky began 3-1 in the SEC was 2021, though that season was later vacated due to off-field issues, leaving their actual record at 0-3. This makes their current streak the first since 2018 when they opened with at least three SEC wins.
Head coach Will Stein’s team is on the verge of matching a 4-1 start to the conference season—a feat last accomplished in 1977, when Kentucky finished 10-1 and 6-0 in the SEC. A victory next week at Oklahoma would not only secure a bowl berth but also put Kentucky in serious contention for a playoff spot and a shot at the SEC Championship Game.
With Georgia leading the standings at 4-0 and Alabama at 3-1, the Wildcats are just one game behind first place, setting up a potential title race if key losses occur in the coming weeks.
