Jon Rahm has formally severed his ties with LIV Golf, forfeiting over $100 million in deferred earnings to reclaim control of his brand and image rights. The Spanish superstar, who joined the Saudi-backed league in late 2023, will not participate in its planned 2027 relaunch, calling the proposed terms 'unacceptable.' His financial sacrifice includes waiving approximately $7.5 million in unpaid claims tied to LIV’s bankruptcy, despite reportedly signing a deal worth more than $300 million.
The agreement still requires federal court approval on November 5, marking a definitive end to one of golf’s most high-profile defections from the PGA Tour.
Rahm’s immediate focus shifts to the DP World Tour, where he has committed to the Abu Dhabi Championship at Yas Links from November 5–8. Currently ranked 46th in the Race to Dubai, he must stay within the top 50 to qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
His return to the PGA Tour remains uncertain, as commissioner Brian Rolapp has ruled out reopening the special reinstatement program that allowed Brooks Koepka to rejoin earlier this year. However, Rahm retains exemptions through 2028 from his 2023 Masters victory, ensuring continued access to golf’s major championships even without regular PGA Tour participation.
