Jon Rahm has finalized a deal to exit LIV Golf, walking away from a reported $100 million in future earnings tied to his original contract. The agreement, pending U.S.
Bankruptcy Court approval on November 5, allows Rahm to leave the tour without pursuing any remaining financial claims, including over $7 million already owed and a potential $100 million from his $300 million deal. In exchange, he relinquishes all equity in Legion XIII, the team he captained since joining LIV three years ago, though he retains rights to his name, image, and likeness, as well as the team’s branding outside of golf contexts like The Golf League (TGL).
Rahm’s departure marks a significant blow to LIV’s efforts to rebuild under 'LIV 2.0,' a proposed global tour offering player equity. His decision follows a rejection of the tour’s proposed terms, as stated by his attorney, and leaves LIV without its biggest star and largest unsecured creditor.
With Bryson DeChambeau still unsigned, the tour’s appeal to investors hinges on fewer marquee names, complicating its financial and competitive future.
