Waqar Younis has expressed the view that Jasprit Bumrah still needs to solidify his standing in the longest format of the game, despite acknowledging the Indian pacer as the premier bowler in limited-overs cricket. While highlighting Bumrah's match-winning impact in white-ball scenarios, such as his pivotal spell against Pakistan in New York, the former captain suggested that limited Test appearances leave room for further proof of his elite status compared to peers like Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood.
Conversely, Bumrah's record includes 234 Test wickets at an average of 19.7, a hat-trick, and a 32-wicket performance in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was also recognized as the 2024 ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year.
