Contract negotiations between the Detroit Pistons and restricted free agent Jalen Duren have reached a tense impasse as training camp approaches. Duren intends to skip both upcoming media day activities and the start of camp sessions as he weighs a looming deadline to accept a one-year qualifying offer.
Following a breakout campaign that included an All-Star nod and third team all-NBA honors, the twenty-two-year-old center turned down a multiyear proposal from the franchise that included a weight clause and fell short of the five-year supermax extension he became eligible to receive.
The standoff stems partly from a drop-off in Duren's production during the postseason following his strong regular-season averages. Front office flexibility remains a central concern for Detroit, which has already committed significant financial extensions to teammates Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson.
With an expiring deadline to secure a one-year tender or negotiate a long-term deal, Duren has not yet secured an offer sheet from competing organizations, leaving the two sides deadlocked as team events get underway.
