New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin recently admitted that his friend and fellow netminder Igor Shesterkin deserves credit for scoring an authentic goalie goal. While Shesterkin intentionally fired the puck into an empty net during a victory against the Lightning, Sorokin previously benefited from an errant pass that traveled all the way down the ice.
Shesterkin achieved the milestone for the Rangers, a feat he had pursued for years, while celebrating with a pumped fist as his team secured a 5-1 win. Sorokin acknowledged the impressive one-timer ahead of his squad's home opener against the Devils, expressing happiness for his peer's long-awaited accomplishment.
