IPL set for grand 20th edition celebrations in 2027 as BCCI re-elects Arun Dhumal, Khairul Jamal Majumdar

At its 95th Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai on a Friday, September 18, the BCCI finalized arrangements to mark the upcoming 20th running of the Indian Premier League in 2027 with massive festivities. The governing body confirmed that Arun Singh Dhumal, a former treasurer representing Himachal Pradesh who has chaired the IPL Governing Council since 2022, alongside Mizoram's M Khairul Jamal Majumdar, were both retained unopposed on the council to direct league affairs.

First launched in April 2008 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium—where Brendon McCullum kicked off the competition by hitting 158 not out off 73 deliveries featuring 10 boundaries and 13 maximums for Kolkata—the tournament has staged 19 seasons and expanded from eight franchises to ten in 2022 to reach a 74-game slate. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings lead the all-time leaderboard with five crowns each under Rohit Sharma and MS , while KKR hold three, and single titles belong to Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, and Gujarat Titans.
