Ingebrigtsen pipped to 5km road gold in Copenhagen

Eritrea's Dawit Seare edged out Jakob Ingebrigtsen in a dramatic climax to claim the men's 5km title at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen. The African 5,000m champion produced a late surge to cross the line in 12:56, leaving the Norwegian star with silver while fellow Eritrean Saymon Amanuel took bronze.

The 26-year-old Ingebrigtsen, who reigns as Olympic 5,000m champion, was making merely his sixth competitive outing in an injury-disrupted campaign, arriving just eight days following a 5,000m track triumph at Budapest's Ultimate Athletics Championships. After appearing out of the hunt until roughly the closing kilometre, Ingebrigtsen surged into the front before Seare snatched victory in the final strides.
