Ingebrigtsen pipped to 5km road gold in Copenhagen

Eritrea's Dawit Seare edged out Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the men's 5km at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, clocking 12 minutes and 56 seconds after overtaking the Norwegian in the closing moments. Ingebrigtsen, who was competing in just his sixth event of an injury-affected year following a track victory over 5,000m eight days earlier in Budapest, launched a surge from far back in the penultimate stretch before finishing as runner-up, with fellow Eritrean Saymon Amanuel collecting bronze.

In the women's 5km, Ethiopia's Likina Amebaw claimed victory in 14:41 after an early breakaway, coming off her $150,000 (£112,000) 5,000m triumph in Budapest six days prior. Kenya's Caroline Gitonga trailed by seven seconds for silver, while Australia's Rose Davies rounded out the podium and Great Britain's Hannah Nuttall finished 10th in 15:08.

76 in 11th. 74, with Kenya's Mirriam Cherop in third and Britain's Katie Snowden ending in 16th.

The Danish capital's two-day athletics showcase concludes on Sunday with the elite half-marathon races.
