India-Afghanistan T20I to go on as scheduled, says DDCA after rescheduling request from Delhi Traffic Police

The opening T20I clash between India and Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium will proceed on Sunday, September 13, according to an announcement from the Delhi and District Cricket Association. Local traffic authorities had formally sought a postponement because the game clashes with the BRICS Summit taking place from September 11 to 13.

With 25,000 to 35,000 fans expected to attend alongside massive security operations and travel reroutes required for visiting international dignitaries, police had urged the cricket body to shift the contest to a later date. Following discussions, the local association assured fans that security assistance has been pledged, although a BCCI official indicated that shifting the game to Monday remains an alternative should logistics break down.

Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Cricket Board, which hosts the three-game series that features subsequent matches on September 15 and 17, stated it had received no formal notifications regarding a date change. The final authority over any adjustment remains shared between the Indian and Afghan boards as the Indian squad commenced training at the Kotla, bolstered by medical clearance for bowler Jasprit .
